Clothing Recommendations
We recommend staying away from prints, plaids, or stripes. Solid colors work best because they never go out of style. For a more formal looking portrait, we suggest collared shirts or blouses with long or capri sleeves rather than short sleeve t-shirts.
Best For Men: Polos or oxford button down with slacks, khakis, or jeans. Suits, sport coats, and neck ties should either be solid or have very small tight patterns. If the pattern is too large, attention will be drawn away from the face. Color coordinate belts and shoes and steer away from sneakers or sandals which will draw the eye away from the face and to the shoes.
Best For Women: Solids are preferable over patterns most of the time. Women's fashion can run the gamut with a myriad of cuts, colors and patterns, chose what works best for your body. Stick to smaller, more subtle patterns. Sheer fabric blouses have become very fashionable and can photograph well but the color of undergarments must be considered and coordinated appropriately. We recommend that all undergarments should be plain, without patterns, lace, or texture which will show through the fabric due to the sensitivity of camera sensors.
White clothing can work for or against you depending on your body type, skin tone and the ambient lighting of the location. If you are considering wearing white clothing in your portrait, we would be glad to give you a more thorough consultation to help you decide how the clothing will look in the final portrait based on all of these factors.
